In one of the Algarve’s most picturesque locations, Carvoeiro and its sandy beach lie snuggled in a protected bay between flanking cliffs.
Unrecognisable from its past as a tiny fishing village, it has grown to become one of the Algarve’s most popular family holiday resorts, as well as a magnet for foreign property owners. Widespread areas of residential villas, apartments and self catering holiday accommodation have sprung up across the neighbouring hillsides, most commanding ocean views. Yet the compact centre, despite its countless cafes, bars and restaurants, still retains its appeal. With only two roads leading in and out, there simply hasn’t been room for high rise development.
Carvoeiro beach is small for the number of visitors in high season, but there are several lovely larger beaches easily reached just along the coast such as Praia da Marinha and Praia de Vale de Centianes. For golfers, there are excellent courses nearby at Gramacho, Pinta and Vale do Milho.
Under four kilometres inland to the north is Lagoa, the principal administrative town for the area with supermarket, shops and all amenities. From here it’s just a short distance to a wide variety of places to visit: Portimao, Praia da Rocha and Lagos along the coast to the west; Armação de Pêra to the east; or historic Silves and the beautiful Monchique mountains further inland.
An ever popular choice for many seeking property in the Algarve, Carvoeiro and its surrounding areas offer an abundance of options and appeal.
