Restaurant – Vila Velha

The restaurant is situated in the old town of São Brás. Head from the square towards the church in the old town and you will pass the restaurant on your right hand side.

At lunch time there is a set menu with usually five or six choices for the main course. These include traditional Portuguese cuisine and international dishes. Your lunch will include a bread and olive starter plus a main course, a glass of wine, beer or a soft drink, a sweet and coffee all for seven euro 50 cents. Try the typical Portuguese cod a bras or even the chicken a bras, both cooked with potato and egg served with a side salad.

The food is all freshly cooked and the sweets are all home made. The biscuit cake is delicious or you could just have ice-cream. The tables are laid with sparkling white cloths. The restaurant is bright and airy and the decor pleasant and calming.

Evening dining is obviously more expensive but the menu is extensive and the prices are very reasonable compared to eating on the beach front. There is a small comfortable seating area to have a pre-dinner drink if required. You can opt for a set menu of 18, 20 or 25 euros. The 20 euro menu is very good value and served cordon bleu style; this has to be taken by two people.

The manager, Kevin, is originally from Belgium and set up the restaurant with the help of his father. They have since employed an extra chef because of the success of their restaurant. Kevin speaks very good English and is very attentive to your requirements. You can make bookings for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries.

The restaurant is closed on Sundays and the set lunch is not served on Saturdays. It is advisable to book, especially for Friday or Saturday evenings. Give Vila Velha a try and you will not be disappointed.
